Do you have a group of people that you would like to give a Christmas gift to, but you don’t want to spend a ton of money. I put together this movie night gift with items I picked up at Target, and the final cost comes in at just under $3.00.
Here is what you will need to make some of these up:
- 2-Pack Plastic Popcorn cups (Dollar Spot)
- Market Pantry Single Microwave popcorn (10-pack)
- Theater Box Candy
- Redbox Gift Certificate (one-night movie rental)
- Cellophane
- Ribbon
In the Target Dollar Spot you will want to pick up some of the plastic popcorn containers, make sure you look for the 2-packs, they are a little bit smaller and since there are 2 of them, they end up costing you only $ .50 a piece.
I bought the Market Pantry 10-pack of Microwave Popcorn Singles, since the box was $2.59, it works out to $ .26 each.
Next up, get a theater style box of candy. These run $1.00 at Target.
I bought some e-gift cards from Redbox, so I could put a FREE movie night rental inside of each popcorn container. To do this, you simply send the e-gift card to yourself, and then you can print each one out individually. As a bonus, when you buy and e-gift card you will get an FREE movie rental for yourself. The cost is $6 for 5, so they end up costing $1.20 each.
When I printed out the gift card, I reduced the image to 75%, so it would fit in the popcorn container better.
I took all of the items and added them to the popcorn container. The cost of everything comes in at $2.96.
To finish it off, I wrapped it in cellophane and tied it up with a bow. Cheap, easy and thoughtful!
Thanks for the awesome idea!
What a fantastic idea!! Thank you for sharing! If the popcorn boxes aren’t in the dollar spot, do you think they might be located elsewhere in the store? My target doesnt have them in that spot…
The Dollar Tree has them as well.
How do you get the redbox gift certificates? Last I heard they didn’t offer these
You can get them here: https://www.redbox.com/gifts
They also have cute wicker christmas baskets at dollar tree so those could work too. I have had a very similar idea but mine included the basket, a dvd, popcorn and candy (and maybe a soda). A little more spendy (just the dvd) but good for people you’re willing to spend a bit more on. EIther way, awesome idea!
Stacey, they have another popcorn cup in yellow tones as well…if they don’t have them now, keep checking in, I shop for a living and they always have those red and white cups come back in stock!
How did you get the redbox codes? sent to you via email? do they have 5 unique codes so you can divide them up? still confused on that part. great neighboor gifts too.
I looked on their web site and they have a great Q&A. Here’s the answer on how to break them up individually.
Q: If I buy a package of promo codes, can I break them up and give them out individually?
A: Yes! Just select yourself as the recipient, and have the promo codes emailed to you. Then, when you get the email, you can click on the codes to create separate gifts with each one.
Fantastic idea. Cute, thoughtful and very budget friendly. I’m thinking of doing something similar for teachers gifts this year. New follower to your site here:)
What a cute idea! You’ve put some real thought into making a sweet gift that is affordable.
Thank you for this idea, we are definitely using it this year!
Silly question but how did you reduce to 75% before you printed. Thanks for the great idea!!
Where did you find the cellophane? Bags or rolls about how much per container?
Cellophane bags can be purchased at Michael’s Crafts, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics, or Party Store
Thank you for this brilliant idea – perfect for co-workers. For the candy, I picked up some Christmas-y Peppermint Crunch Junior Mints from Five Below. Does anyone have an idea for a cute saying for a gift tag for these?
Where did you find the cellophane? Bags or rolls about how much per container? Target has cellophane bags but they are not big enough. Or, the big ones cost $2 each.
Thanks – this is really a great idea!
I got my cellophane at Target. I think it was back when they had the Easter clearance, but it should be something they carry year round. Check the wrapping paper section or even the Christmas department.
I just did a search on-line and found clear cellophane roll wrap at Target. It is located with the party stuff. I am going to go get it right now and will post again if it is not what is needed for the project.
I just wanted to let you know that I made these for the guys n girls who watch my 4month old at kid care while I work out. There were 7 people. I absolutely love how they turned out! And they absolutely loved getting a thoughtful and practical gift. Thank you so so much! Can’t wait to see what you come up with for net year 😉
Anyone know when these popcorn containers will be available again?
I need to buy some for my sons birthday party in October.
great idea but you can no longer divide up the ecards. 🙁
