Storage Jars with DIY Plaid Labels (from Target Dollar Spot)

Have you been to Target lately?   That’s a silly question, of course you have!   Have you noticed all the plaid items throughout the store?  Plaid is in right now!

Target Plaid Listerine

Target has a Mad for Plaid collection that includes plaid clothing, kitchenware, home decor, pet supplies, scarves and even plaid LISTERINE® bottles!

Plaid Listerine

I bought the LISTERINE® Cool Mint with blue plaid packaging from Target.   The fun packaging brightened up my bathroom and totally got me thinking I would love to add some more plaid around my home.   Which is why I made some storage jars with plaid labels to store my cotton balls & cotton swabs in.

target dollar jars

I used these glass jars that I found in the Target dollar spot and decided to dress them up with some plaid labels.   You can make some too!  It’s so easy to customize the plaid print to whatever colors you desire.   I’m particularly fond of the blue on the LISTERINE® bottle.

tape and paint

I started with some black vinyl and I used Washi Tape to tape off the lines I wanted to paint.  I started with vertical lines.

Once the paint was dry, I taped off the black vinyl for the horizontal lines.

peel tape

You can see what the finised paint job looks like after removing the Washi Tape. It’s seriously cool.  I could see doing a fun red and green print for the holidays too.

use marker

Once both stripes were dry I used the white American Crafts Galaxy Marker (also found in the Target dollar spot) and a clear ruler to draw the white plaid lines.

label pattern

Since the jar had an embossed area for the label, I made a pattern that I could use to cut out the label.  I taped a piece of paper to the jar and used and end of a paint brush to mark the edges where the label will go.    I used a pen to trace the outside area.  I used this as a pattern to cut out the black label.

match listerine bottle

I am totally impressed with how the paint I chose matched the LISTERINE® bottle perfectly.   This makes me happy because I love the pretty blue color on the LISTERINE® Cool Mint bottle.

finished jars and listerine

The finishing touch was adding the labels to the jars and filling them with cotton balls and cotton swabs for my bathroom. Not only does the new plaid wrapped LISTERINE® bottles dress up my bathroom, but LISTERINE® can also help me achieve better oral health.   By keeping the LISTERINE® Antiseptic on the counter it reminds me to add it into my twice-daily routine of brushing my teeth.

Target Listerine

You will find the limited edition Plaid LISTERINE® bottles at Target on an end cap near the dental care items.   If you pick up some LISTERINE® make sure you take advantage of the 10% off Cartwheel offer good on LISTERINE® products.  Cartwheel offer is good 9/13-10/31.

What plaid items are you loving at Target right now?
