Recycle Ziploc® Bags at Target (and other locations too)

I love that recycling has become more convenient and accessible at our homes, schools, restaurants and stores. Have you noticed the recycling bins at your local Target store?   Target has made it easy for everyone to recycle by placing these bins at the front of their stores.  You can use these bins to recycle glass, plastic, aluminum and plastic bags (even Ziploc® brand bags).

The process of recycling uses far less energy than manufacturing items with brand new raw materials.   Recycling helps with the following:

  • Conserves energy and natural resources
  • Reduces pollution
  • Helps prevent landfills from filling up

Not only can you recycle the plastic bags that you get while you are shopping at Target, you can also recycle any plastic Ziploc® bags, they just need to be clean and dry. I thought it was interesting to find out that the majority of recycled plastic bags become composite lumber, which is used for fences, benches, decks, door and window frames, and even playground equipment.    Many of these items are things that you would use regular lumber for, so when we recycle we are helping to save our natural resources for our children and grandchildren.

My son’s school always has “Waste-Free Wednesday” where everything they bring in their lunch should be reusable or recyclable. I can now send my son’s sandwich in a Ziploc® bag with zero guilt because I know I can recycle it.    My son simply puts the Ziploc® bags back in his lunch box.   Once I have gotten all the use out of the bags that I can, I can clean and dry them)and drop them off at my local Target store.   I head to Target at least once a week (I know many of you do too), so recycling at Target is super easy and convenient.

Great post! Just wanted to mention that when recycling zip lock bags it’s also necessary to cut or rip off the zipper part. They can’t recycle that and if you leave it on it will likely just go in the trash since they don’t have time to manually remove them all.

actually, we checked with the recycler and they are able to handle the zips – making it easier for everyone! thanks for caring!
