Hot Cocoa Gift Basket with Homemade Cocoa Mix

Today we are sharing a fun and festive hot cocoa gift basket filled with homemade hot cocoa mix, cocoa toppings and a mug. The majority of these items were purchased at Target.  The basket and jar were found in the Target Dollar Spot.   This would make a great Christmas gift for any cocoa loving friend.

To assemble the hot cocoa gift basket you will first want to make some homemade hot cocoa mix . It’s easier than you think!  Just follow the recipe below.

Mix homemade hot cocoa mix

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix recipe:

  • 10 cups of powdered milk
  • 2 cups unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 3/4 cups non-dairy creamer powder
  • 5 cups of powdered sugar

Add all ingredients into large bowl, stir until combined.   Store in airtight container.   When making the hot cocoa you will add 1/3 cup of the mix to 3/4 cup hot water.

Add toppings to ornaments

Here is a fun way to add some hot cocoa toppings to the basket. Add marshmallow bits, sprinkles and mini chocolate chips  inside small plastic ornaments (found at the craft store).  These will give the finished basket a fun holiday feel to it.

Hot Cocoa Gift Basket

Here is what I used for the Hot Cocoa Gift Basket

  • Reindeer Fabric bucket (Target Dollar Spot)
  • Glass Jar (Target Dollar Spot)
  • Mini Wood Scooper 4″ (from Amazon)
  • Super Cute Mug (from Target)
  • Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix
  • Plastic Ornaments filled with Hot Cocoa toppings (sprinkles, Marshmallow bits, mini chocolate chips)
  • Candy Canes

DIY Hot Cocoa Mix - great for gifting

You could also give the hot cocoa mix on it’s own too. So cute!

The recipe should make over 50 cups of hot cocoa.

I Love this idea for my kids teachers and for my employees but I can’t seem to find the jars with the Christmas decoration already on.

Those jars were bought in the dollar spot last year. We should see new jars this year. They will probably show up shortly after Halloween.

What do you mean by 1 3/4 non dairy creamer? Do I put the whole container in?

      It’s 1 and 3/4 cup, so 1 3/4 total.

When given to the recipient, did you wrap the basket in a decorative cellophane?
