DIY Narwhal Jewelry Holder

4/18/19

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

My Target recently switched up its arts and crafts aisle. There are so many new things to create with! Let me show you how I used a ceramic narwhal to make a unique jewelry holder.

You’ll need:

  • ceramic narwhal by Hand Made Modern
  • sanding block or sandpaper
  • Delta Ceramcoat Metallic Aqua acrylic paint
  • Hand Made Modern 20k Gold acrylic paint
  • cup
  • paintbrush
  • white square coupe appetizer plate
  • super glue

Begin by sanding the narwhal. This helps the paint stick to the ceramic better.

To avoid unsightly brushstrokes, I poured the paint on instead of brushing it. The paint needs to be thinned out first though. Do this by adding water to the paint in a separate cup. Start with a small amount of water and add more as necessary. Mix it up well.

Hold the narwhal from the opening underneath. Slowly pour the paint over it with your other hand. You should be able to move it around to even the paint out. Do not paint the narwhal’s tusk. After the excess paint is finished dripping off, allow it to dry.

Paint the narwhal’s tusk gold with a small paintbrush. I put a thick, messy layer of paint to add texture.

Once it’s dry you can glue the narwhal to the plate. I found this square appetizer plate at Target and it’s just the right size!

Here it is all loaded up with jewelry. The narwhal’s horn makes a great ring holder! There is also plenty of space for things like earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

Who knew narwhals and jewelry were such a good match?
