DIY Framed Pressed Flowers Mother’s Day Gift

I knew this glass frame would make a beautiful Mother’s Day DIY the second I saw it. Hand picked flowers and a cute picture turn this glass frame into a thoughtful keepsake anyone would love to receive.

You’ll need:

  • glass frame ($3 from Bullseye’s Playground)
  • flowers
  • picture
  • double sided tape
  • microwave
  • paper towels
  • microwave safe dish

Since my kids are gifting this to their grandma, I had them pick a few wildflowers for it.

You can dry the flowers the traditional way, but I didn’t feel like waiting. Instead, I used the microwave. It was fast, easy, and worked great!

Lay a paper towel down on the microwave plate. Put the flowers on top.

Place a paper towel on top of the flowers. Then you’ll place a microwave safe dish on top. You’ll want this dish to have a flat bottom.

Use the defrost button on your microwave and check on the flowers every 20-30 seconds. After a minute or two I noticed the moisture from the flowers starting to transfer to the paper towel. Gently remove the flowers from the middle of the paper towels, and place them between two new paper towels. Place the dish on top again. Keep microwaving (20-30 seconds at a time) until the flowers are dry.

After a few hiccups, I learned some things that should help you create a nice arrangement:

  • Use double sided tape to secure the picture to the back piece of glass.
  • Some flowers will be too thick and make it hard to slide the glass in the frame. Get rid of them instead of risking breaking the glass.
  • You can see in the picture below how the glass actually sits in the frame. Place the glass on top of the frame before arranging the flowers and picture.

Place the second piece of glass on top, then carefully side it in the top of the frame.

So sweet! What mama or grandma wouldn’t love to receive this gift!
